Surrounding context: This was published in January 2014, written by Yo-Yo Ma. He is a famous cellist and songwriter who has won many awards, which his bio mentions.

Circumstantial context: The circumstances around my reading experience is that I as assigned a portion of this essay to read in class. It would probably not be something I would pick up to read in my free time, but it was interesting nonetheless.
