The following is my example of a Barclay Paragraph.
Outside people’s thoughts and perceptions have the power to change who we are and our life stories. Through Julie Beck’s article Life Stories and Nicole’s interview of hr roommate Lauren, this influence is clearly described. Beck describes how others listening to our stories impact what we share and how we share them, saying “the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves are influenced by more than just, well ourselves,”(7). The way we remember and tell our stories can can be influenced by those surrounding us, not just our own thoughts and feelings. Along a similar route to that, when explaining how her 2 week outdoor adventure changed her, Lauren describes before, “I was whatever people wanted me to be.” Other people in her life influenced her identity and how she experienced her life before her journey. I share beliefs with both sources, in that outside perspectives can change how we individually feel, think, or experience our lives. While we aren’t solely controlled, or made up of other’s opinions, they have power on our actions, and therefore our life stories.
